Flying has a long tradition in Sillian: paragliding competitions were already held here in 1986 and 87. Flying takes place high above the Pustertal valley, directly on the southern fringe of the main Alpine ridge, but some what influenced by the upper winds.
However numerous take-off sites and starting directions ensure the best opportunities for flying. Thurntaler is also a stop on the long-distance route followed by cross-country pilots in Drautal and Pustertal - from east to west, or vice versa.
